LESSON GUIDE

Exercises and key points

How to combine larynx movement (Goo + eh) with the tongue out

Teacher

Extend the tongue outside your mouth as if gently holding its tip between your teeth, and practice the three larynx heights and tone colors.

Holding a microphone

Teacher

With the tongue tip gently held between your teeth, make an ordinary speaking-like “eh”. This is the reference larynx height for this exercise.

Holding a pointer

Teacher

If the tongue outside your mouth twitches, try exhaling fully and practicing with the little air left, without taking another breath. As explained in Intermediate 03, the tongue tenses or twitches while resisting excessive airflow. If your voice is still unstable, improve tongue control with the tongue exercises in the beginner and intermediate courses.

Thinking

Teacher

Compared with normal-height Goo “mmm”, keep a wider space in the mouth and throat as if a thick tube passed through, and say “eh”. Aim for a deep, thick giant’s tone, as if you were about ten meters taller. Keep the tongue tip against the back of the lower teeth.

Giving a thumbs-up

Teacher

In contrast to lowered-larynx Goo “eh”, raise the whole tongue, from tip to base, toward the palate to make the mouth and throat space as small as possible, then say “eh”. Aim for a bright, piercing tone like a tiny person only a few tens of centimeters tall.
