LESSON GUIDE

Exercises and key points

How to combine three jaw positions and vocal fold control

Teacher

Keep each of the three jaw positions you learned previously and practice distinguishing Goo, Choki and Paa with a nasal “mmm” hum.

Teacher

Position 1: Keep your usual jaw opening, with your mouth slightly open. Position 2: From position 1, lower the jaw straight down so your mouth opens vertically. o→O Position 3: From position 1, push the jaw forward so the lower jaw protrudes. Make the nasal “mmm” hum with the tip of your tongue resting behind your lower teeth.

Student

Do you mean using Goo while moving the jaw through positions 1, 2 and 3, then doing the same with Paa, and so on?

Teacher

Yes, that is right! This time the sound comes through the nose, so be careful not to let it escape through the mouth.

Student

I think this exercise might be easy for me!

Teacher

Oh, great! To increase the difficulty, keep your tongue tip on the biting edge of your upper front teeth without letting it slip away while practicing Goo, Choki and Paa.
