WHY THIS LESSON

Why practice this?

What you will learnLearn a relaxed vocal fry sound with less strain by keeping the vocal folds thin and using little air.

You can produce relaxed vocal fry once you learn to greatly reduce the airflow while keeping the vocal folds thin.

Practicing this sound gradually develops the elements needed for powerful high notes produced with little air and less strain.

Practicing both relaxed and constricted vocal fry also builds a foundation for a noisy, rock-style voice without hurting your throat.

How to practice Vocal Fry 1 (Relaxed Sound)

Teacher

First, let out a big voiced sigh on “eh” or “ah.” As the sustained sound becomes quiet at the end, see whether relaxed vocal fry naturally appears. Try to relax as much as possible.

Holding a microphone

Teacher

Next, raise your larynx while making an “eh” or “ah” sound with the Paa voice. As you continue until your air runs out, relaxed vocal fry will appear.

Giving a thumbs-up

Teacher

Finally, start directly with an “eh” or “ah” in the Paa voice to produce relaxed vocal fry.
