LESSON GUIDE

Exercises and key points

How to combine soft palate and vocal folds

Teacher

Practice combining each of the three routes from Beginner 01—nose only, nose and mouth, and mouth only—with Goo, Choki and Paa voices.

Student

It feels like the difficulty suddenly jumped…

Teacher

Focusing on vocal fold balance may disrupt soft palate balance, or trying to maintain soft palate balance may make the vocal folds harder to control. Take your time and practice slowly.

Teacher

Practice slowly until you become more familiar with each target. Switching continuously between nose only, nose and mouth, and mouth only may be tricky, but do not worry if you cannot do it at first.

Student

Okay, I’ll keep working steadily at my own pace!
